So, more than a week before Apple has their event to release a new product (which everyone in the world is now convinced is a tablet), PC World brings out a review of why it will be a heap of crap. Presumably they’d like us to think they have extremely powerful prescience, but I think it’s fair to say that they give the game away in their first sentence:
Attention Apple fan-boys and -girls: Read no further. But if you run a small business and want to avoid wasting money and brain cells on superfluous technology, forget about the iSlate or whatever Apple is going to call its tablet computing device. It’s going to be too expensive, it does things you don’t need to do, and it will add a messy layer of complication to your company’s computing infrastructure.
In other words, they’re saying: “We hate Apple. No, seriously, we do. And we’re smart. Anyone who hates Apple is really really smart, and anyone who doesn’t hate Apple is clearly a stinky pants fan-boy or fan-girl.”
This two faced hypocritical scum-baggery is the sort of stuff that drives me nuts. There’s a self-satisfied smirk behind that statement from PC World that anyone who dares to argue is clearly just another fanboy or fangirl and has no right to their opinion.
I’ll suggest an alternative opinion: starting a review of a product that doesn’t yet exist with such a level of illogical vitriol suggests that at best there’s a high degree of mental incompetence to the writer.
This argument-by-absurdity approach is becoming increasingly histrionic. Whenever I see an attempt to defend an review by starting with “you won’t like this if you’re a fan boy …”, I know it’s going to be an exceptionally stupid argument. You see, the only way to defend a stupid argument is to raise a Grand Shield of Stupidity.
Undoubtedly the writer of this piece of tripe will call me a fan boy given my rebuttal. In fact, it may be argued that I’m failing to raise any counter arguments because I haven’t refuted any point yet. But here’s the rub: you should never argue with idiots. They’ll just drag you down to your level, and since they’re better at being stupid than you, they’ll run rings around you. Based on the opening statement, it’s clear the writer of the tripe over at PC World would bury me if I engaged in an argument.
