A lot of people seem to dislike getting older. On the other hand, I don’t mind it at all, in fact I’m rather happy about it. There’s actually four reasons why I’m happy to get older:
- Less sleep – everyone says that the older you get, the less you sleep of a night time. Sure, you may nap a bit during the day, but you get to sleep less during the night. Given that I really resent sleep, not having to do so much of it in one continuous block sounds pretty damn good to me.
- I’ll have an excuse for being forgetful – I’m terribly forgetful at times. Funnily enough, that’s coupled with an amazing memory at other times. It’s crazy that I can channel surf, see 30 seconds of an episode of Stargate and then be able to give a complete synopsis of what happened in that episode, but I’m terrible with faces and names. Well, as I get older I’ll have an excuse for my bad memory.
- The older you get, the faster time passes – this isn’t some bit of esoteric physics, it’s basic math. When you’re three years old, a year is a bloody long time, since it’s one third of your life. When you’re 36, like I currently am now, it’s just 1/36th of your life. That means as I get older, the years go faster (and remember, time is relative!) which means I don’t have to wait as long to see what happens next.
- It’s better than the alternative – I’d invite everyone who worries about getting older to remember that there’s only one alternative to aging, and it’s no-where near as much fun.
There you have it: that’s why I’m glad I’m getting older.
