OK that title is rather lengthy for a very short post:

  • Without Parallels tools installed: 19MB/s maximum throughput to a 3-disk stripe holding the virtual machines.
  • With Parallels tools installed: 90MB/s sustained throughput to the same stripe holding the virtual machines.

Still not the same as the performance I get writing natively (240MB/s), but that’s a hell of a big difference when I need to generate a 2.1TB file from within a Linux virtual machine.
